Frequently Asked Dental Questions - Bakersfield, CA
Keeping You Informed from Day One
Whether you’ve been to multiple dentists in the past or have not visited in quite some time, our dental office is always happy to answer any and all of your questions, no matter how simple or complex they might be. Below, we’ve included a handful of the ones we hear the most as well as our detailed responses for your convenience. If yours isn’t listed, please don’t hesitate to give us a call directly.
How often is often enough for checkups?
For most patients, routine checkups and cleanings every six months is the most ideal, but there are some exceptions. For example, if you have gum disease that requires ongoing treatment to manage, we will ask that you come in every three to four months instead. Children should come in for their first appointment within six months of their first tooth erupting.
How should I replace missing teeth?
There are many ways to replace missing teeth at our dental office. For example, if you have a single or multiple consecutive missing teeth, a dental bridge or dental implant are both ideal solutions. However, those with several missing teeth may find a full or partial denture to better meet their preference.
Can you make my smile look more attractive?
Absolutely! You deserve to have a smile you feel confident showing to others, and veneers, metal-free restorations, take-home whitening kits, and direct bonding are just a few of the ways we can help you achieve your dream smile.
My tooth hurts. What does it mean?
While a toothache could be due to a cavity caused by decay, it could also be something more urgent like a dental infection. If this is the case, call our dental office right away so we can perform root canal therapy. Not only will this get you out of pain, but it will work to save your tooth from needing an extraction.
Are dental implants safe?
When placed by a dental professional, dental implants are considered incredibly safe. This is thanks to the long preparation phase of treatment that’s necessary before implants can be placed, which is done by a trusted local specialist and colleague of Dr. Carlson.
Can I visit you for a dental emergency?
If you believe you are experiencing a dental emergency, don’t wait to give us a call as soon as possible. After all, it could mean the difference between saving and losing your tooth. We offer same-day emergency appointments as well as serve patients after hours and on weekends in case of an urgent dental issue.
I feel nervous about visiting. Can you help me?
Dental anxiety or phobia is more common than you’d think, but our dental office is prepared. We offer multiple sedation options in-house to ensure you can get your most important dental treatments completed and out of the way without feeling anxious.
